Three common models
- Percentage of labor. The tech earns a share of the labor price, not the part. Expensive parts don't inflate the payout.
- Flat amount per repair type. One amount for a battery swap, a larger one for a screen or charging port. Easy to read and audit.
- Percentage of job profit. Price minus part cost, then a share. Rewards good quoting but needs part costs recorded.
Rules to write down
- The commission belongs to the tech assigned on the ticket; reassignments are recorded on the ticket.
- It counts when the repair is picked up and closed, not when it leaves the bench.
- Decide up front what happens on a warranty return (see handling repair comebacks).
- Decide whether diagnostics with no repair, and accessory sales, earn anything.
- Only the Owner or Manager can adjust a commission, and every change is logged.
Track it on the ticket
Each ticket should hold the device, fault, repair performed, assigned tech, labor/part/tax split, status and whether it's a warranty job. Then the period's commission math comes from tickets, not memory. Check it against your end-of-day cash count before paying, and share each tech's job list with them.
What RepairAmigo tracks
RepairAmigo is free software for phone, computer and electronics repair shops. Its built-in commission covers protective case sales only; it does not calculate repair, labor or per-technician commissions. If you pay a repair commission, track it outside the app (a spreadsheet works) using RepairAmigo's tickets as the record.
Case commission is turned on by the Owner or a Manager under Main menu → MANAGEMENT → STAFF & COMMISSIONS → COMMISSION RATES ("Pay commission on protective case sales"), with a flat commission per case and a minimum payout per period. When on, every POS sale (repair checkout or walk-in Cash POS sale) that includes a protective case records the commission for the cashier. The report is under STAFF & COMMISSIONS → COMMISSIONS, where a Manager can deny or delete entries; the In-Shop COMMISSIONS button only appears while case commission is on.
RepairAmigo also has tickets with an assigned tech, pricing from your own price list, Owner/Manager/Technician roles with change logs, built-in warranty returns, parts inventory and cash management. It runs as a VirtualBox virtual machine on a Windows, Linux or Intel Mac computer in your shop, and staff use it from any browser on the shop network.

FAQ
Should commission include the part price?
Usually not. Most shops pay on labor or on job profit.
What happens to commission on a warranty return?
Write the rule before it happens: deduct it, keep it, or pay it once.
Does RepairAmigo track commissions?
Only on protective case sales: a flat amount per case for the cashier, when the Owner or a Manager turns it on. It does not calculate repair commissions; track those outside the app. RepairAmigo is free, with no ticket or user limits.
