“Free” gets used loosely, so here are the details
This page spells out exactly what you get, what you provide, and how setup works.

What “free” means here
RepairAmigo is free to use. That covers:
- The whole system. Intake, instant pricing, repair tickets, live inventory, cash management, users and roles, customer text updates, warranty returns, reports and the cash sale screen are all part of RepairAmigo.
- No ticket or user limits. RepairAmigo runs on your own hardware and doesn’t limit how many repairs you take in or how many staff you add.
- Your data, exportable. The Owner can export the whole database as a SQL backup, every table as CSV files for Excel, or an encrypted migration package.
In other words, RepairAmigo gives your shop the same core tools you’d otherwise pay a monthly subscription for (repair tickets, inventory, a point of sale for cash sales, and reports), for free. If you’ve used tools like RepairShopr or RepairDesk, RepairAmigo covers the same everyday work, free.
What you provide
Free software still runs on something. Here is the honest list.
- A computer that stays on. RepairAmigo runs as a virtual machine in VirtualBox, which is also free. At minimum you need a 64-bit Intel or AMD computer with 16 GB of RAM and 8 CPU threads, running Windows 10/11, Linux or macOS on an Intel Mac. The RepairAmigo VM itself uses 8 CPUs and 8 GB of RAM; the rest keeps the VM and the computer running smoothly. Apple Silicon Macs (M1–M4) are not supported.
- Your shop network. Staff open RepairAmigo in a browser on any computer, tablet or phone on the same network. A wired connection for the host computer is best; some guest or mesh Wi-Fi networks block the bridged connection the VM needs.
- Some setup time. Plan on about an hour (an estimate; it depends on your computer). You install VirtualBox, import
RepairAmigo.ova, switch the network adapter to “Bridged”, start the VM and open the address it shows. The setup guide walks through every screen with screenshots. - Your own backups. Because the data lives on your computer, keeping copies is your job. Export regularly and store copies on another device, like a USB drive or a second computer. Deleting the VM deletes the data inside it, so always export first.
- Customer texting, if you want it. Texting is optional and off by default. To turn it on, you connect your shop’s own Twilio account and pay Twilio directly for the messages you send. Texting needs an internet connection.
What self-hosted means in practice
The software and your data live on a computer in your shop, and staff use RepairAmigo in a browser on the shop network. You set it up yourself, with the guide, and you keep your own backups. In return, your customer list stays on a computer you control.
